Five Fundamental Principles of PROUT - Progressive Utilization Theory
The Progressive Utilization Theory (PROUT), propounded by Shrii Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar in 1959, is based on Five Fundamental Principles. These principles form the philosophical and practical core of PROUT’s socio-economic framework.
Five Fundamental Principles of PROUT
1. No individual should be allowed to accumulate any physical wealth without the clear permission or approval of the collective body.
Explanation:
This principle opposes unchecked capitalism. It stresses collective welfare over individual hoarding, ensuring that physical resources are distributed equitably and serve social interest.
2. There should be maximum utilization and rational distribution of all mundane, supramundane, and spiritual potentialities of the universe.
Explanation:
Resources — physical (like land and minerals), intellectual (like knowledge), and spiritual (like inner realization) — should be fully utilized for the benefit of all, not wasted or monopolized.
3. There should be maximum utilization of the physical, metaphysical, and spiritual potentialities of the unit and collective body of human society.
Explanation:
Every individual and society has unique capacities. This principle promotes total development of individuals and communities, ensuring no potential remains untapped.
4. There should be a proper adjustment among these physical, metaphysical, mundane, supramundane and spiritual utilizations.
Explanation:
Utilization must be balanced. Overemphasis on material growth without ethical or spiritual development leads to imbalance. PROUT aims for holistic progress.
5. Utilizations vary in accordance with time, space, and form; the utilization should be of a progressive nature.
Explanation:
Utilization must be dynamic and adaptable to changing conditions. What works in one era or region may not suit another. PROUT rejects rigid systems, embracing flexibility and progressiveness.
